American democracy is broken. How often recently have we heard that pessimistic refrain about our country. Billionaires influencing election outcomes. A feeble, cowering, and ineffective U.S. Congress. A social media environment that rewards hate and vitriol and suppresses reasonable and civil debate.
But what if it didn’t have to be that way? What if we could see the GOOD that is happening in our country? Hear stories of Americans not shouting at the top of their lungs, and but working with their fellow citizens for the betterment of our society and democracy.
The presentation will include:
· A diagnosis of the major ills of American democracy.
· Examples at the federal, state, and local level of public officials and citizens who are solving problems through collaboration, creativity, and hard work.
· The “recipe” for reforms required at the national level, based on a systemic research of various democracy reform proposals.
· Ideas for how participants can become involved and become part of the solution.
The presentation will include interesting video clips and leave participants informed and, hopefully, more optimistic about the future of American democracy.
